Artist Bio

Patricia Flynn has been Irish Set dancing for over thirty years, although her interest in Irish dance dates back to childhood, when she used to follow her best friend around to step dancing competitions. Set dancing is the social form of dancing, as opposed to the competitive. Its strength as an ideal workshop is that it is collaborative. Students dance in squares together, not as soloists. Pat was fortunate to be a two time Folk Arts grantee from the NJ State Council on the Arts, which enabled her to study with an Irish Dance Master, and she continued her studies with several of the most renowned Irish Dance Masters when they toured the US, most notably, Connie Ryan the father of the modern Irish Set dancing movement. Most weekends, Pat can be found seeking out one of the many Céilithe in the NY Metropolitan area. Most cultures have dancing traditions, and the joy of dancing together is an experience she loves sharing with students .
